Apple pie!
Apple pie!
Of course, you could do your standard apple pie for Thanksgiving, OR you can step your game up with this beautiful and delicious version! It is just as easy to make as the traditional one, but it is sure to blow away your guests!
ingredients:
4-5 Granny Smith apples
2 cups sugar
2 tsp cinnamon
Pinch of clove
Pinch of ginger
Pinch of nutmeg
1 pie crust (preferably homemade but store bought works fine)
1 lemon juiced
2 tbsp butter
method:
Begin by washing your apples. Then with the skin on you are going to slice two cheeks off either side of the core and then slice off the half moons leaving you with the core to discard. Do this for all your apples. Now using a mandolin or a knife slice the 2 apples into very thin slices. Place in some water and set a side. Finely dice the rest of your apples and add to a medium saucepan with the butter. Place over medium heat and add 1 3/4 cup sugar and lemon juice. Stew the apples down until a nice thick but smear-able apple butter is made, about five to ten minutes.) Now add your spices and stir to combine.
Blind bake your crust at 400 until the crust is just set. Then add your apple butter putting more in the center of the pie and less around the edge. Take the thinly sliced apples and begin laying them out in concentric circles until the entire top of the pie looks like a beautiful flower. Sprinkle the rest of the sugar on top and bake at 400 untill the top apples are cooked and the crust is golden brown (about 10-15 min.) Pull it out and allow to cool completely. Use a very sharp knife when serving and enjoy!
